Travel Vaccinations
Information and advice for travelling abroad
Travel Vaccinations
If you require vaccinations for foreign travel, please complete our routine care request form and select ‘Pre‑travel appointment’ from the ‘Type of request’ drop‑down menu.
In the ‘More information’ box, please include:
- Date of travel
- Duration of travel
- Destination(s)
- Type of accommodation
- Whether your partner or children also require vaccinations
Once we receive your form, one of our patient navigators will contact you to arrange a telephone appointment with one of our nurses, who will review your records and ask any necessary screening questions. During this call, the nurse will book a follow‑up face‑to‑face appointment for any required vaccinations.
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 8 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
The NHS is only able to provide specific vaccinations to its NHS patients for travel. These include:
- Cholera
- Hepatitis A
- Typhoid
- Polio
